£600 raised for Diabetes UK by pupil at Mrs Ethelston’s CE Primary
Jace Loder, a pupil from Mrs Ethelston’s CE Primary School in Uplyme, East Devon, has raised money and awareness for national charity Diabetes UK after being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
Jace says, ‘I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in Year 2, which I found really challenging. I didn't want anyone to know or see me having any treatment. Since then, I have learnt a lot and learned to love myself and my differences and want to spread awareness so that I can help others. Type 1 diabetes is very different from Type 2 (which is directly linked to having too much sugar).
‘To raise awareness, I organised a day where the whole school wore an item of light blue clothing (for Diabetes UK) and I led a worship about diabetes and my journey. I also made each child and adult in the school a little diabetes pack, that explains what Diabetes is and how to spot the symptoms.
We set up a Just Giving Page to support Diabetes UK and raised £600! I would like to thank everyone who has donated toward this, it really will make a huge difference.’
