After being diagnosed with epilepsy at the beginning of 2025, Osi Henderson, a pupil from Hawkchurch CE Primary School in East Devon, has raised over £1,000 for national charity Young Epilepsy by undertaking a ‘26 miles in 26 days’ challenge.
Osi’s epilepsy is linked with another long-term neurological condition called Neurofibromatosis 1. For the first nine months, Osi's seizures averaged out at one every two weeks. Fortunately, with daily medication, the seizures only happen occasionally now.
To raise the total of £1119, Osi and his siblings walked, biked and rolled a mile or more every day for the first 26 days of March 2026, finishing on Purple Day, the International Day of Epilepsy awareness. Staff at the school wore purple on the same day.
Osi says, ‘Purple my all-time favourite colour. From 9 months old, I worked through boxes of wooden blocks or cars to find the purple ones!’
