  • Pupil launches fiction book

Anuki Abeywickrama, a nine-year old year 4 pupil from Axminster Primary Academy in East Devon, has had her very first fantasy novel published by Book Publication UK.

The God Summoner Girl is a story about a young girl who can summon gods and control powerful lightning, set in a magical world full of chaos and mythology.

Anuki says, “I’m so excited, and a little nervous too. It’s always been my dream to become an author, so knowing that people will read a book I’ve written feels really special.”

Axminster Primary hosted a book launch event at the school before the May half term to celebrate her achievement.

Claire Hulbert, Head of School, said, ‘We are incredibly proud of Anuki’s achievement. She has such a talent, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading her new book. At Axminster Primary, we believe that every single pupil should be empowered to achieve their full potential and Anuki has really exemplified this. We aim to develop children academically in a safe, happy and supportive environment, with reading and writing a key focus for all year groups. Anuki’s passion for English literature at such a young age is truly remarkable.’

Lahiru Abeywickrama, Anuki’s father, says, ‘Anuki has worked incredibly hard on this book and we are so proud to see her becoming a published author at such a young age. We look forward to launching her new book at her school, Axminster Community Primary and to sharing her story with the local community.’
