  • Pupils at Blackpool Primary complete Spirit Award

A group of 28 Year 6 pupils from Blackpool CE Primary School near Newton Abbot have successfully completed the Blackpool Spirit Award.

Throughout the year, they have embraced every opportunity to make a positive difference, showing kindness, resilience, responsibility, and a real commitment to serving others.

A highlight of their journey has been the impact they have made within the local community.

Russell Pearson, Head of School, says, “The children rolled up their sleeves to help care for Stover Park by cutting back invasive bushes; they created a wildflower meadow and insect houses at St Michael’s Church in Ilsington, and volunteered at the local toy library. They also welcomed local residents into school by hosting a Teddy Bears' Picnic for preschool children and a special afternoon tea for senior citizens, creating opportunities for different generations to come together and strengthening links between our school and the wider community.’

As Courageous Advocacy Champions, the children planned and led their own fundraising activities, raising an impressive £1,848.49 for their chosen charity.

Russell, continues, ‘The enthusiasm, teamwork, and determination of the pupils has been extremely inspiring. We even had a small group of pupils design and successfully complete a Mini Ten Tors challenge, demonstrating incredible perseverance, resilience, and teamwork. All of the Year 6 pupils who took part should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved. They have not only completed the Blackpool Spirit Award but also left a lasting, positive impact on both our school and the wider community. It has been wonderful to watch them grow in confidence, support one another, and embrace the values of kindness, courage, responsibility, and service. Congratulations to all.’
